Join Our Summer Reading Program: REWARDS Intermediate & REWARDS Secondary
Who will benefit from the REWARDS program?
Designed to boost reading skills for students from grades 4-12, our program is divided into two tailored sections:

REWARDS Intermediate: For students in grades 4-6.

REWARDS Secondary: For students in grades 7-12.
Our program is ideal for students who have:

mastered the basic reading skills typically taught in the first and second grades
-
can read at a third-grade level or above but struggles with accurately and fluently reading grade-level passages

Can read at least 60 words per minute
Free Assessments
To ensure that your child is a perfect fit for the REWARDS program, we offer free assessments upon registration. These evaluations help us ensure they get the most out of their summer learning experience.
Rate Development for Fluency
Fluency is a crucial component of reading proficiency, encompassing the ability to read with speed, accuracy, and proper expression. The REWARDS program focuses on developing fluency through repeated readings of a passage for which the reader has a high level of accuracy. Over the course of the program, students track their Oral Reading Fluency Rates.
REWARDS helps students significantly improve their reading fluency, enabling them to read more confidently and with greater comprehension.
Multisyllabic Word Reading
The REWARDS program enhances multi-syllabic word reading through flexible decoding strategies. Students learn to identify prefixes, suffixes, and vowel sounds, improving their ability to read complex words. Additionally, REWARDS teaches students to use context to correct close approximations, ensuring accurate and fluent reading.
Using overt and covert decoding strategies, students begin to read and spell words with greater accuracy.
Academic Vocabulary Development
Because reading comprehension is higher grades is highly related to a student's vocabulary, academic words must be taught and systematically reviewed. In each lesson, students will be explicitly taught the meaning of difficult and domain-specific vocabulary.
This improves students' reading comprehension of more challenging academic texts.
